In Windows 8 it can take a few clicks to get to the 'Restart' option.
To make life easier you can create a 'Restart' shortcut instead that will allow you to quickly restart the computer from both the Desktop and Windows Start screen.
From the Start screen, click on the 'Desktop' tile to get to the desktop environment.
Right click somewhere on the desktop background image and a menu will appear.
From this menu select 'New' and a sub-menu will then appear, from the sub-menu select 'Shortcut'.
A window will appear asking you to type in a location.
In the box type the following:
shutdown /r /t 0 (make sure to include the spaces), then click 'Next'.
On the next screen enter a name for the shortcut then click the 'Finish' button.
The new shortcut icon will now be displayed on the desktop. If you want to move the shortcut icon, move the mouse pointer over the icon, hold the left mouse button down and drag it to a better position.
To change the shortcut's icon, right click on the shortcut to bring up a menu.
From this menu select 'Properties'.
On the properties window that appears click the 'Change Icon' button.
If a warning appears click 'OK' and a window full of icons should appear.
You can choose any of the icons - you may need to scroll through a few rows to find one that looks suitable for a restart icon.
Click once on the icon you wish to use to select it and then click 'OK' to close this window.
Back in the properties window, have a look for 'Run'.
Click on the drop down menu next to 'Run' and from this menu select 'Minimized'.
Once this is done click the 'Apply' button then 'OK'.
If you would prefer to have the shortcut on the bottom taskbar rather than on the desktop, right click on the shortcut to bring up the menu again.
This time select 'Pin to Taskbar' from the menu.
A copy of the shortcut will now appear on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
At this point we have a 'Restart' shortcut in the desktop environment, however we can also get it to appear on the Windows Start screen.
Right click on the shortcut and from the menu that appears click on 'Pin to start'.
You can now delete the desktop shortcut if you like.
Press the windows key on the keyboard to return to the Start screen and you will now see the 'Restart' shortcut is now available here as well.
